Amazon Payments frequently asked questions (FAQ)
What is Amazon Payments?
Amazon Payments is a service that provides you with the ability to use the payment methods already associated with your Amazon.com account to make payments for goods or services on third-party websites. To make a payment, you can use any of the payment methods on file in your Amazon.com account.
How do I sign up?
If you already have an account with Amazon.com, you will only have to accept our User Agreement when making a purchase on a non-Amazon site that accepts Amazon Payments. There is no other registration process.
Am I protected when I use Amazon Payments?
If there are ever unauthorized Amazon Payments charges against your payment method, you can dispute the charge with us. You must notify us as quickly as possible, and no later than 13 months after the date of the transaction. Unless you have acted fraudulently or with negligence, you may not be held responsible for the charge. When you use Amazon Payments for qualified purchases on third-party websites, the condition of the item that you buy and its timely delivery may be guaranteed under the Amazon A-to-z Guarantee for Buyers. If you submit payment for a product or service and you do not receive the item, or it is materially different than advertised by the merchant, you can dispute the transaction and request reimbursement. For more information, see the Buyer Dispute Program.
To learn more about filing a dispute for Amazon Payments transactions, see Transaction disputes.
Is my payment information shared with anyone?
We do not share your payment method information with merchants who accept Amazon Payments on their websites. You do not need to disclose your payment information to others when you use Amazon Payments. Because your Amazon Payments account is linked to your Amazon.com account, any changes you make to payment methods in your Amazon Payments account will appear on your Amazon.com account (and vice versa).
What payment methods can be used with Amazon Payments?
Any of the payment methods available on your Amazon.com account can be used with Amazon Payments. Note that Amazon.com gift cards entered into your Amazon.com account cannot be used when making purchases with Amazon Payments on third-party websites.
How do I change my account information?
For details on which information can be changed, and where to change it, see Making changes to your Amazon Payments account information.
How do I make a payment?
When you see that Amazon Payments is an accepted payment method for a product or service that you want to purchase, just click the Amazon Payments logo or button, enter your Amazon.com email address and password, and then choose your payment method. See Using your Amazon Payments account for more information.
